NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN COLLEGE LIBRARY HOSTS THE ANNUAL FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BANQUET

EUGENE, Ore.  - On Friday, March 7, 2008, The Friends of the Library of Northwest Christian College are hosting their annual banquet.  This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. H. Keith Watkins, 1953 Northwest Christian College graduate, retired professor of worship at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana, and published author of many titles.  Dr. Watkins will be speaking on “A Center of Helpful Influences:  Ninety Years at the Yakama Christian Mission.”

In 1921, people from the Christian Churches and leaders of the Yakima People created the “Yakima Indian Christian Mission” in White Swan, Washington.  One of the sponsors said that the purpose was “to make this Mission what the Indians themselves would desire it to be—a home of Christian culture for their children and a center of helpful influences for the tribe.”  Highlights from this history and their implications for today will be presented in this banquet address.

The Friends of the Library participate in volunteer projects that enrich the Kellenberger Library’s special collections, sponsor lectures and events designed to uplift the library’s spiritual and cultural heritage, and raise funds for special projects such as the restoration of the library's rare Bible collection.

The banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. in NCC’s Burke-Griffeth banquet room.

For banquet reservations or further information, please contact the office of Kellenberger Library at 684-7235 or email FOL@nwcc.edu.
