NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN COLLEGE ATHLETICS

HOSTS FOOD DRIVE AT BASKETBALL GAME

Donations to Food for Lane County are the price of admission to double-header

(EUGENE, Ore.) –Admission to Northwest Christian College’s non-conference basketball double-header against Holy Names University this Friday, Dec. 14, will be free to anyone who brings two or more cans of food to the game. The food drive, a benefit for Food for Lane County, is part of the athletic department’s commitment to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Champions of Character program.

“At NCC, our athletes are challenged to do more than just perfect their physical abilities. They’re building character that will last the rest of their lives,” said Corey Anderson, Northwest Christian’s director of athletics. “The food drive is just one way our team supports the community and reaches out to help this time of year.”

The NAIA Champions of Character program was launched in 2000 to instill an understanding of character values in sport and provide practical tools for student-athletes, coaches and parents to use in modeling exemplary character traits. Beacon Basketball’s food drive is a response to local news reports that Food for Lane County is suffering from unusually low supplies of food donations this holiday season.

While Beacon Basketball is requesting two or more cans of food per person, any donation of canned and non-perishable food, along with cash, will be accepted at the gate as the price of admission.

Northwest Christian College, which will be renamed Northwest Christian University in July 2008, is a member of the Cascade Conference. The game against Holy Names University of California will be held Friday, Dec. 14, at NCC’s Morse Events Center. The women’s game will begin at 5:30 p.m. The men’s game will follow at 7:30 p.m.
