NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN COLLEGE HOST THE SECOND ANNUAL STONE-CAMPBELL SYMPOSIUM

 

EUGENE, Ore. –February 8, 2007-Northwest Christian College-

 

Northwest Christian College will host its second annual Stone-Campbell Symposium March 19-21, 2007.  This year’s event theme is, “Faith and Learning in the Stone-Campbell Movement.”

 

Dr. Dennis Lindsay, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, says the symposium will “educate, inform, and encourage fellowship and mutual appreciation for the tasks that lie before our movement, our congregations, and our institutions in the 21st century.

 

The Stone-Campbell Movement is a diverse Christian movement with its roots in the early 18th century and it includes Christian Churches/Churches of Christ, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and Churches of Christ (a cappella).

 

The keynote speakers for this year’s symposium are: Dr. Eleanor A. Daniel, Dr. Debra B. Hull, Dr. Kathy Pulley, Dr. Paul Blowers, and D’Esta Love.

 

Dr. Eleanor A. Daniel is the Dorothy Keister Walker Professor of Christian Education and the director of institutional research at Emmanuel School of Religion in Johnson City , Tennessee.  She contributed articles on educational ministry among the Christian Churches/Churches of Christ, and women in the ministry in the 20th century among the Christian Churches/Churches of Christ for The Encyclopedia of the Stone-Campbell Movement.

 

Dr. Debra B. Hull is professor of psychology at Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia.  She contributed articles to The Encyclopedia of the Stone-Campbell Movement on women in ministry in the nineteenth century, women in ministry among the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the 20th century, and an article about Sarah Catherine McCoy Crank.

 

Dr. Kathy J. Pulley is professor of religious studies at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri.  Dr. Pulley contributed an article for The Encyclopedia of the Stone-Campbell Movement on women in ministry.

 

Dr. Paul Blowers is the Dean E. Walker Professor of Church History at Emmanuel School of Religion in Johnson City, Tennessee.  In addition to serving as one of the editors of The Encyclopedia of the Stone-Campbell Movement, he authored or co-authored numerous articles in the Encyclopedia.

 

D’Esta Love is the chaplain at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, where she has served for 25 years.  Prior to assuming her duties as chaplain, D’Estra served for 12 years as dean of students.  In addition to serving as chaplain, she teaches New Testament and Christian Ministry in the Religion Division, and co-edits Leaven, a journal for ministry.

 

Northwest Christian College offers: Bachelor of arts degrees in accounting, Bible and Christian ministry studies, business administration, communication, global studies, human services, humanities, interdisciplinary studies (individualized), music industry, music ministry, psychology, social sciences, and teacher education. Bachelor of science degrees are offered in computer and information science (C.I.S.) and exercise science. NCC offers graduate degrees in professional counseling (M.A.), school counseling (M.A.), and business administration (M.B.A.). The Professional Studies Program offers bachelor of arts degrees in accounting, health care administration, human services, management, and management information systems (M.I.S.).  Northwest Christian College also offers T.E.S.O.L. certification (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), the associate of arts degree in general studies, and the associate of science degree in pre-professional health science.
