ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT PREPARES FOR 2008 SUMMER CAMPS

EUGENE, ORE. -- For Northwest Christian College athletic department is currently preparing for another busy summer of sports camps, which will kick off on June 23rd. Created to give kids in the Eugene community an opportunity to break the summer doldrums by participating in sports alongside current NCC student athletes, the Beacon Sports Camps will welcome more than 250 campers onto the 11th and Alder campus over the summer.

The summer camp season will kick off on June 23rd with the Beacon Volleyball Camp, a four-day camp with morning and afternoon sessions geared for kids between the third and ninth grades. Campers will learn fundamental volleyball skills including passing, serving, setting, hitting and game strategies. First-year head coach Mike Gaffaney will oversee the camp, which will also be taught be a number of members of the Beacon volleyball team.

The Beacon Girl’s Basketball Camp begins on July 7th. Three sessions are available during the four-day camp for kids in Kindergarten through ninth grade. These camps feature basketball fundamentals and many games and contests throughout the week.

The boys basketball camp comes the following week, beginning on July 14th. Similar to the girls basketball camp, game fundamentals are highlighted and the camp is staffed by many present and past NCC players as well as high school and youth coaches from the Eugene area.

The Beacon Sports Camps slate concludes during the week of August 4th with soccer camp. Kids from kindergarten through ninth grade will have the opportunity to learn soccer fundamentals including footwork, passing and have fun doing so.

Interwoven throughout the teaching philosophy of all Beacon Sports Camps is NCC’s commitment to the Champions of Character program. Our camps will give kids a positive athletic experience as the five core values will be presented daily through coaching and participation; respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership and sportsmanship.

Camp costs range from $30.00 to $120.00, depending on age and the length of camp. Additional information and registration can be found by going to GoBEACONS.com.
