STUDENTS AND STAFF COME OUT EN MASS

FOR FUNDRAISER FOR NCC STUDENT

Eugene, Ore.--- More than 50 Northwest Christian College (NCC) students and staff showed their support for OWL student Flint Du Tell by attending a fund-raiser at Coburg Road Papa’s Pizza in Eugene.  The April 10 event was held to help defray medical costs for Du Tell, who suffered a stroke Feb. 1.

Papa’s Pizza donated 50 percent of the food total for each participating order on the day of the event.  NCC students and staff took advantage of this opportunity to help one of their own. According to Papa’s Pizza manager John Heilbronner, more than $526 was raised and 44 flyers were collected during the one-day event.  Flyers advertising the event were distributed by NCC and were required to be presented when ordering for those wishing to participate in the fund-raiser.

Du Tell arrived at Papa’s Pizza with Debbie Caudill, his best friend and former supervisor at the NCC Kellenberger Library.  He walked into the restaurant on his own with the aid of a cane and made a point to stand while greeting as many NCC students as possible.  Du Tell and Caudill stayed for more than two hours, eating and visiting with friends from school.

Du Tell, 34, spent two weeks in Sacred Heart Medical Center’s intensive care unit before being transferred to the neurological floor.  Since being hospitalized, Du Tell has undergone intensive physical, occupational and speech therapy, and has regained substantial use of his affected left side.   Now in the rehabilitation wing of Sacred Heart, Du Tell is able to leave the hospital with friends and family to attend church, go out to dinner, and participate in social functions such as this year’s Spring Formal.  His recovery has progressed enough that he will be leaving the hospital soon and moving into the Uhlhorn Apartments, a facility run by ShelterCare for people who have suffered brain injuries.

Donations to Du Tell’s medical fund may be made by contacting Corey Anderson, director of athletics, at 541-684-7354.
