Your love for kids and your passion to lead the next generation into a life-long love of learning has brought you to the Teacher Education program at Northwest Christian University. Becoming a teacher is a wonderful way to use the gifts that God has given you to inspire young people in life-changing ways. As you study education at Northwest Christian, you will get the skills and knowledge you need to become a highly qualified teacher.
As a Teacher Education major, you will quickly discover that we believe cultivating effective teaching practices starts with the premise that every child and young person is valuable beyond measure and worthy of love and acceptance. From that foundation, you will learn to lead, empower, and motivate students towards mastery of skills, subjects, and standards, as well as to a life-long love of learning. Completion of this program will result in recommendation to the Teacher Standards & Practices Commission of Oregon (TSPC) for an initial teaching license in early childhood, elementary, middle, or secondary level education.
In this program, you will learn to implement strong classroom management, best teaching practices, well-crafted lesson plans, and useful assessment tools. You will also get a strong understanding of what is expected of teachers and students for state standards and benchmarks. All this takes place in a liberal arts Christian university where your knowledge is broadened, your faith is deepened, and your ethics are grounded.
